** Warning, This post was cut and paste from our GunNutz board ** I just wanted to share our M14 addiction with you folks in the States. We can buy the Norinco M14's for the price below, but we must limit our 20 rd mags to 5 rds, similar to your AWB shzt. For those of you newer to the Canadian M14 situation, these Cdn$ 400 are a fabulous bargain. The receivers are forged and the geometry is fantastic. I fired my Norinco back in Nov 2002 and mic'ed the brass to 17 thou over the 1.630" SAAMI spec. Then I dropped in a USGI TRW Bolt and repeated the same experiment : 0 thou headspace !! Amazing ! Since then I've rebarreled the receiver with a buddies tired old Douglas TE around 4 or 5 and that baby still shoots into 1.25" without trying hard.

Okay my 2nd Norinco project will soon be underway :D (once it lands here in Collingweed, Ontario, Kanada ) Yup, I placed my order with Peter over at Marstar (www.marstar.ca ) along with another 3 20/5 rd magazines. Sorry, my 'Merican friends... This is for my son's Service Rifle fun coming up this spring. I'll be shooting my Douglas barreled Norinco that I bought from Milarm ($ 699.00 CDN or USD $ 525) last November 2002. Hey, Skullboy and I paid that much, but we're way further ahead on the learning curve, ya baby, yah !

I've ordered another USGI Fiberglass stock (Mike's gonna paint it, too ) and I've hunting around for a USGI Chrome lined (can you say big $$$ ?) barrel so that I can hang all kinds of USGI gas cylinder and flash suppressor goods on there. Remember Norinco owners, YOU DON'T have to rush out and swap all those Norinco parts for USGI. Don't do it ! Put down that VISA card and keyboard (or phone). Let me and Skullboy buy up all the USGI parts in the lower 48 states since we are (self-confessed) USGI parts SNOBS.

So for those of you lurking (this post is intended for the casual Canadian M14 NEWBIE) and wondering whether to buy an M14 at the "price of a lifetime", JUST DO IT ! Hey, this is my 2nd Kommunist M14. Remember, the receiver is a forged one and the $ CDN 475 (taxes and shipping and transfer fee) is worth it. As I've advocated before , the parts hanging on the rifle are FREE (Gratis) as far as I'm concerned. Okay, I'm gonna get flamed for encouraging members / newbs to drop their money on a Kommunist Chinese product, but Hey George Dubya has just endorsed the Kommies over a Taiwanese Democratic crew. Dec 10, 2003 News Folks, this deal is right (well, almost) up there with those $ 450.00 (USD $ 350) 8O TRW, SA , WIN & HR USGI M14's that showed up from Israel way back in 1986- 87. Hey, I bought 2 of 'em. But, unfortunately I sold my last remaining TRW M14 to Skullboy.

Remember all those Danish M1's from DistriCorp, Milarm, Levers, et al that sold for around $ 195.00 ? There was another milestone. You and I are never going to see Springfield Armory M1A rifles for less than $ Cdn 2000 after tax dollars. And I still gotta replace the trigger group (cast subcontracted), operating rod (another cast then welded sub-contracted piece) and who knows whatever else.

Okay, now I gotta hunt around for a USGI profiled barrel , gas cylinder, flash suppressor and all the hardware that hang on the barrel. Hey, who did I just sell my last few TRW bolts to (on this board) ?? I gotta find a USGI bolt , too. People, don't panic and rush out to buy USGI stuff. As I've said before, my M14's will probably see between 500 and 1000 rounds each Service Rifle season. That's why I go with the USGI goodies. Most of you blasters and collectors and casual plinkers will never need to do this swapping process. Even Skullboy does not need to buy up all kinds of USGI parts until he gets off his butt to shoot in the BCRA Service Rifle matches... just sell that stuff to ME !

Cheers,
Barney (Only 1 in my family still north of the border)

Norinco

Barney,

Really great to see you back posting here! Man, sounds like you know your way around a M-14 type. Congrats on the new buy, I'm sure your son will be quite pleased with it. You are right on one thing, we down south here are very envious of your prices on those Norincos. Buy lots, as they grow in popularity they will probably go up in price.

Barney, in a sponge-like, parasite fashion, I want to learn everything you know about M14s. Then I want to take some machining classes and start building custom rifles. You've been warned!

I have another place up by Flesherton, and pretty soon I'm gonna come a courtin'. Keep your pants on, I just want what's upstairs. Free steak and beer is on me. :D
