H.R.1808 - 117th Congress (2021-2022): Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 | Congress.gov | Library of Congress

I read that the plan is to tie this into the Respect for Marriage act, which supposedly makes gay marriage legal in federal law.

Not sure but I know in WA state its not allowed to put together such disparate bills and pass them as one, not sure on federal level. Either way, it wont work.

This AW ban is pretty intrusive and more limiting than I think SCOTUS will allow.

Uh, no, not really. We just had one and the Democrats are still running the show. Either people are so lazy they didn’t go out and vote or the elections rigged. Considering the state of our country, the Democrats shouldn’t be running anything other than a lemonade stand.

And you have made my point in part. The old Avis ad slogan, "We try harder." applies here. If we all just gave up going forward, the liberal-left-progressive agenda would completely ruin the country. Another slogan from my youth refers to one being part of the solution.

In my view, we can still turn this thing around.

Just giving up is not an option.

I wouldn’t worry about it, they already tried this before and it didn’t happen. And they’ve only got about four weeks to do it tops.

Sleepy Joe has boasted many times that "he did it once before and will do it again" referring to the previous Assault Weapon Ban. He and the rest of the Dems are salivating at the prospect of enacting another such ban although WITHOUT the 10-year sunset provision this time.
During my lifetime the Dems have become increasingly more progressive and radical in their quest to CONTROL the American people rather than legislate to make our lives better. One of the biggest hurdles they must overcome is our Constitution that recognizes and codifies our God-Given RIGHTS!
Firearms ownership in the hands of private citizens is one of their biggest hurdles which is why they want to eliminate it. Every dictator in human history has done this and it has lead to the death of millions who tried to resist.
The time to resist is BEFORE you lose your rights, not after they have been lost!

Possession and sale of semiautomatic rifles, many of which are branded as assault weapons, is such an emotional issue. Only a small portion of murders (less than 5 percent, if I recall correctly) are committed with an AR-15 style rifle; the rest are committed with handguns, knives, baseball bats, etc. Unfortunately, many deaths occur in a short time at the hands of a mentally unstable perpetrator with an AR style rifle, which is why there is such urgency to ban them.
How many are murdered each week in Chicago without equal urgency to ban the instruments? Goodness. Maybe it's already illegal to murder another person with such devices.
The Dems want to ban private possession of all firearms and consider the ARs a good place to start.

btw, Instructor's post was OK for me.

For all the firearms owners who think, "Oh, well, a semi-auto 'assault weapons' ban won't effect me," I'd suggest that you consider just how the ATF subverts the statutes and makes up its own arbitrary rules (aka, pseudo laws).

Given the current trend in the ATF, if this passes Congress - and Joe will fall all over himself to sign it - the ATF will pervert the law into a ban on ALL firearms that employ any sort of semi-auto operating system, to include semi-auto handguns, semi-auto hunting rifles and semi-auto shotguns.

This is Pelosi's last hoo-rah, and she'll try to shove this up the a** end of the American people just like was done with Obama-care. No one should think that this is a pointless exercise or some sort of ineffectual "protest vote" by the House. The Dems are dead serious about doing this.

I’m not talking about giving up. But Americans are inherently lazy, and either did not show up at the polls three weeks ago or the entire election is rigged. If they truly cared about the country and their rights, they would not keep voting Democrats in office. The old mantra of vote them out is like a broken record. Most of the Democrats have been in there for 40+ years. At this point in the game, voting doesn’t do much good, and we have a 40+ year track record to prove it.

OK, again, the Dems have lost the house, so it won’t happen after January for sure. Then we have until now until about the middle of December before they break for Christmas. They only have about 3 to 4 weeks to try and do this, and nothing is going to pass. They tried passing gun control earlier this year and it got shot down. Again, I wouldn’t worry about it

On the other hand, if we just threw our hands in the air and stayed home en masse, things would have been much, much worse. We did take the House after all and thats a big deal.

People are staying home en masse, the last election proves that
People are staying home en masse, the last election proves that
I dont agree with that. Just because the vote didnt totally go our way doesnt mean our side stayed home. We are outnumbered, at least for the time being.

Amen, you called it
They can FOAD.
That is why elections matter.
Legitimate ones most certainly do.

Some few things have me thinking. How many mass shooters have known troubled personalities, have had official red flags ignored, permitted to buy a firearm, and shoot up the defenseless? This is a fairly recent phenomenon. Overloaded system? Reviewers refusing to acknowledge that red flags may be legitimate? Reviewers who know they are legitimate but permit the firearm sale to continue? Review simply not bothered with?
Seems that recently, about the point the emotions of one mass shooting are beginning to wane, another occurs. Got me to thinking....how many counsellors are completely off their rocker and are encouraging/leading patients into mass shootings? Most patients wouldn't but it just takes a few. How many multiple shooters have had common psych's?
Just wondering my way through a bad cold.
I get and agree with your points. However, I am waaayyy past justifying what I own to them. It is very tiresome. As I said above, they can all FOAD.

Anti-Constitutional lawyers can redefine 'assault weapon' quicker than they can snort a line.

Give up your semi auto rifles? {assault weapons are select fire} they have learned a lot from Hitler, tell a little lie long enough "the serfs" will all believe that semi autos ARE assault weapons. Not all people are that gullible. I am aware of a fact that many dead people stayed at home and voted, where their votes were gathered, and counted to make sure there was a fair election, guess they didn't want to rise up a catch the Wuhan Flu at polling places!
Read a letter to the editor of our little local paper yesterday. Some woman was just delighted that the election went so well for the dims. Said she was very happy that one of our state candidates lost because he advocated "machinegun " ownership!
Machineguns are not legal to own in this state.
Ignorance on parade and proud of it!
Folks,

More case law is being built upon, the Supreme Court is the last stop on the train. Remember Fredrick Douglass “ ballot box, we have failed there, jury box a work in progress and finally cartridge box. I say that the Supreme Court is the last stop before, we’ll you know.
The Left wants to discount the other 51% of the population, not all of us want drag queens teaching kids. Boys going into girls restrooms, rampant illegal immigration, homelessness, high taxes. And a sufficient number of citizens will tell the Feds to FO, if another Assault Weapons Ban passes. L8899#
