Is This Normal?

957 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  hammonje
Hi,

I just stripped and cleaned my new M1A NM and when I put it back together I noticed that when I squeezed the plastic handguard together with the front of the stock, the stock moved about 1/8'' towards the handguard. When I let go the stock went back with some tension.

Is this normal or should it not be able to move at all?

Thanks,
Connor

Did the receiver move? Did the trigger group move?

Yes, it's normal to have some draw on the stock. Also should be clearance between stock and handguard. I grind the handguards using a belt sander when I build them. You don't want the interface you exert pressure on the barrel. When the rifle heats up the stock may swell a bit. You need clearance. Everything is as it should be for a NM accurized rifle.
