Right now there are generally three types of Flash Hiders being sold on the market. They are:
GI - when you can find them. Rough cast then machined to ordnance dimensions. Approx value today $175.00 -200.00
Cast Taiwan - Entirely cast, including finished configuration. Does not align with center bore. MANY SELL THESE AS GI ISSUE ESPECIALLY THE INTERNET MARKETERS OF CHINESE AND COMMERCIAL GOODS. Price range $29.00 -$45.00 Piece of crap.
Machined Reproduction - Entirely machined in Florida, high quality, MANUFACTURER MAKES NO ATTEMPT TO DECEIVE, sells them as reproductions. Very well made, not configured like the GI. Aligns with centerbore like GI.
One caution: Get this "Rings like a bell" nonsense out of your mind. Any steel, configured like a tuning fork will ring when struck. I have the Taiwan, GI, and commercially machined, and like SNIPER below posted, THEY ALL RING LIKE A BELL. Relying on that information will get you a Cast reproduction for the GI price.
When asked: Mr. Ricca ,I would like to know if there is a surefire method of IDing flashhiders and M14 bipods.Thank You.

of Flash Hiders. M2 Bipods keep this in mind. Original GI bring $300.00 to 350.00 so somebody advertising an endless supply for $40.00 to $150.00????? I get a GI bipod about every two years, yet they seem to be all over eBay, the internet and SGN???? There are no quantities of GI bipods around.
It got so bad that SARCO now sells the Navy Taiwan made bipods, so are they GI??? Some advertise them as that, but I perfer thinking of them as off the shelf chinese made copies the Navy is forced into purchasing due to non availabliity of GI. Today you can't manufacture a few dozen bipods like the Navy purchases, it just can't be done.
