After reading some discussion of barrel manufacturers, I got curious and stripped mine down for some further inspection. She's an Armscorp NM, rear-lugged piece with op rod marked NM, NM sights, TRW trigger group and is more accurate than I am. THe barrel is marked NM on the top, about 2" behind the FH.....but that's all there is! I can find no other markings anywhere on her. Would someone out together an otherwise fully-equipped tack driver and then put a POS barrel on? If it's a Chicom, would it even thread the FH? Damn, I'm confused...............

:? I am just as confused as you are If it is a NM GI Barrel it would be marked with the Mfr and the Date on the right hand side near the Chamber, If it is Chinese and it Shoots Good Leave it alone, DONT FIX IT IF it AINT BROKE and dont Ever Look a Gift Horse In The Mouth!

Myself personally I find nothing wrong with the Chinese barrels and if shes puttin' em in there ... Hey! ... what more is there to say.

I know they put out some fine chrome lines on their ak47s that last a long long time ...

If it is a NM barrel, then it is not chrome lined and is not Chinese. It is most likely a commercially produced match barrel.

If it shoots well, why get all hot and bothered about who made the barrel? Just be happy.

Edited for spelling.

Lazarus,
On my Springfield M1A, purchased as a receiver and built into a national match rifle, the barrel is a heavy SAK and is marked on the top under the hand guard in the same manner as the Canadian Arsenal mentioned above.

Quag~~~So, if it's marked "NM" ...then it isn't chrome lined and isn't Chinese....right? (not that there is anything wrong with that, I guess)

Also, I pulled the handguard and can't find anything else marked on it anywhere...just the "NM" stamped as described.

Lazarus,
I have an M1a with that same barrel. it is made by Canadian arsenal, BKENNEDY is correct. I actually was looking for a barrel like that, new, they are tack drivers. if it was a Chinese barrel the threads on it would be metric and you castlenut and lock nut would not thread on.

Personally, I would not trust an unmarked barrel. If the manufacturer didn't want to put his name on it, do your really want to put your face behind it? 8O
Remember, the best documented M1A Kaboom was caused by fautly metalurgy in an unmarked barrel. I'd give Armscorp a call and try and find out who made that barrel and why it isn't marked.

 I Agree with m14dan, anybody can put NM on a Barrel, If it is Chrome lined it is most likely a Chinese Barrel (they are Good) The US and Canadian Match Barrels are marked by the Manufacturer and will NOT be Chrome lined.

What is wrong with all you people busting on this guy's rifle?

Yes TEA, I'm sure that all barrels with no makers stamping were made by the mfg of the barrel in the old kaboom story.

As for m14dan, why would you assume that it was chinese & not a NM barrel? If you're going to rain on his parafe then at least tell him what to look for to discern if it is chrome-lined or a chrome molly match barrel.

Sometimes...

I bought a Armcrop m14 about two years ago did not know anything about these guns. Well for 900.00 I got a all H&R parts Douglas barrel with out there name on it. All I could find was 1-10'' 1-9-90 short camber 308. I called armscrop the man took the serial # and said he would look it up a few months later he e-mailed me the above info and said they had bought unmarked barrels from douglas so your may be the same.

Quagmire I dont think TEA was trying to rain on the Man's Parade, I think he was giving a Heads Up, As for m14dan I have seen People mark NM on Barrels not only Chinese ones but others, I have seen plenty of them at Gunshows in the early 90s and the were marked in the Right place too.

It just struck me as being pointless sniping, esp. m14dan's post, as no information that might help the guy actually id the barrel was included.

nm barrell

Sir, I have one EXACTLY as you describe. It was built for a friend of mine by a 'smith/mil. armorer in N Ala. It's a Sprfld. rec., all Sprfld GI parts, NM sights front and back, fully bedded GI stock(selector cut beautifully filled), and also an absolute TACK DRIVER. Barrell is GI contour, but unmarked except for NM in same place as yours(definitely not chromed). My personal feeling is that someone who went to this degree to build this rifle wouldn't put a crap barrell on it(did I mention unitized GC, screwed and glued?), but I will admit I cannot say for sure who built this barrell. All GI stuff was not marked, I promise you. Depends on where it was supposed to go. But unless you know who built it, the fact is anyone can stamp markings anywhere on anything. I actually have a Barnett barrel on a med. weight NM that I can't find any markings on, and I know this is what the barrel is(friend of mine built it). Maybe we should concentrate on somweone who can do specific metallurgical tests? It's good advice to remember we're setting off an EXPLOSION next to our face every time we pull the trigger on a live round. Regards. Wendell
