It deflects differently because the clip is being ejected at the same time.

:lol: :lol: :lol:I had the same problem with a guy two lanes over from me one time when I was shooting my M1A. Every third casing would land on his bench while he was trying to shoot his Browning A-bolt and he was livid that my rifle sent its casing over in his direction. The funniest thing about it was that his girlfriend thought it was funny and that made it even funnier .
Althrough true, not entirely accurate. During normal firing, the op rod will actually hit the casing on the return stroke, deflecting the case forward into the 1 to 2 o'clock range. On the last shot, the op rod is held open, allowing the last round of brass to be ejected to the side.
