Well I field stripped my rifle last night and was looking it over. I noticed that the barrel has Winchester stamped on it. When did SA use Winchester parts in the M1? I thought that it might be a USGI barrel? I believe it has a date on it as well. I see an "AUG." and a number stamped on it as well. Any ideas? :?

SA, Inc. uses USGI M14 parts when they have them to build M1A rifles.

Sounds like your rifle has a USGI chrome-lined Winchester barrel, congrats!

Check your op rod, bolt & trigger group & see if you have any more USGI parts. ;)

Is it a perban or postban tells us a little more just curious. A few of the s/n# will help tell when it was made. Sound's like you got a keeper to me 8) .

Winnie Barrel

w30olds,

I've got a preban SA that has a Winnie barrel as well. Luck of the draw. I'm converting to all Winnie. I've got a trigger assembly coming from Orion 7. If anybody knows where I can get a bolt and op rod, please let me know. Take care.

Hey guys. The rifle is a postban. It was made in 2003 according to the paperwork that was attached to the trigger guard. Has the headspacing numbers, the guy name who did the spacing and assembly and the production date. I'll see if I can find any other cool number tonight. Thanks for the replies! You guys are great :D

Thanks,
Andy

W30,
just last fall i picked up a second SA M1A. it's a postban std model #MA9103. it also has a winchester barrel, dated feb. '63. the barrel was the only thing GI. (and the birch stock.)
dperr,
i did the same thing that your doing, swap all parts with winchester.
took alot of looking, and money, but i'm very happy with the results.
figure now i have the best of both worlds, and almost a complete set of extra parts at hand just in case. i'll send you a pm with a guys name that i found alot of GI stuff from.

good luck with your rifles guys, enjoy!
