I got my first 30/40 Krag today, Serial number in the 18,000 range and it is in very very good condition! As soon as I figure out how to post pics I will of this one and the rest of the collection!
I do belive I now have all the american battle rifles!!!!!! WHOO WHOO!
Sorry gents, i am just a little exicted!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mine is a M1898 Rifle converted by someone to a deer rifle with a carbine length barrel and M1903 sight on the front. Probably done when it was a $4 rifle.... Drilled and tapped for a scope too. Still a slick carbine though it won't fool anyone!
Anyone know what a 1894 30in bbl, no sporterizing done to this one, witht he serial number around 18,000 is worth? I would say the overall percentage is 80 to 90 percent, depending whom is looking at it.
Does it have a cartouche on the stock? Many 92s -94s were reworked by the Armory. There are several good books on the Krag. An unaltered 94 is worth big bucks , $10,000 or so. Does it have the cleaning rod under the barrel? Ser. Nos. under 24562 should be professionally appraised.
