I hope Gus will correct me if I am wrong, but thought the SPLINES are the thing to keep the FS in place?
I have been known to peen the splines (with a ball pein hammer!!) with a punch, and then tap the FS on firmly, maybe not even contacting the shoulder on the barrel. Then firm-up the nut. Then locktite it all in place.
