Have my rifle zeroed @100 meters and intend to sling some lead at an 8" paper plate around 420 yards... Mils or hold over ideas?
Yes. Have a MILRAD scope and wonder what the hold over should be? Will be shooting Sierra 168's and 175's both over 39.5 gr of H4895 #34 primerScope or open sights? "Mils" is making me think you are using a Mil Dot scope.
Thanks, this is all new to me and am trying to learn... Wind should not be an issueMake a wind call and dope the rifle. Holding over is for the A1 guys..
Thanks Bob but mine has the SWFA SS10MQhttp://m14forum.com/m14/109725-how-kick-m14-irons-grade-4-math.html
Here's a quick tutorial on sight's for M-14

Thanks, am quite new to this and the weather is hot, 80 to 90 degrees and below sea level... Am guessing 2350/2400 fps? There's more info that's needed. The velocity, weather, altitude, temperature, humidity. Not really needed for that range but it will give you better data. You can get on Google and search for a ballistics computer. They're free. Or if you have a smartphone there's many free ballistics apps. I have strelok. Try jbmballistics.com. Or g7
Thanks Bob and all who replied... I am not up to this level yet; have bought me a chronograph that I hope to use this winter after I decide on which bullet weight and powder to use... General terms are fine by me at the moment... Looks like 2 1/2 to 3 mils hold over might get me on 'pallet'...lol
Thank you so much danthman... g7 shows I will need 2.8 mils up with my inputs as they are...There's more info that's needed. The velocity, weather, altitude, temperature, humidity. thanks but I am zeroed for the 'ten dot' I have been shooting and on the way out today set up a pallet across a 40 acre block of lemons to try something different... My last 5 out of my magazine today hit 5 of 5 of the dots...Jeff, if holding over is your game, wouldn't you be better off with a 200 yard zero? Then you can hold under a little at 100 yards, or just ignore it.
