I found I enjoy finishing the m1a stocks, so I thought I'd try this shotgun stock done to my taste.
The gun is a winny, 1300 defender that rode in a county sheriffs/ deputy car. Not mine until recently. It was traded in at the local Gus shop, whom called me with offer of a good deal. I really like the 1300's actually big fan of all real winchesters. I want to know what kind of wood it is and if I can take the above and make it more like this.

to make it look like that one,1st. strip it, then soak it in a dark stain then buff with 000 steel wool and then tung oil or other clear coat. because of the light color, i'd say its beech, maybe birch.

Wow looks like a consensus. Now what dark stain I was/ am hoping for that grayish greenish look. I saw one on here to show more the look color I want but can't find it right now.
