I've looked everywhere in Austin for a good sling for my M1A in black synthetic stock. I tried academy, mcbrides, red's, and even cabelas with no luck.

I'm looking for something in black or green (I think these colors look good with the black stock).

As always, I appreciate everyone's advice,

J

I have a Biothane I believe it is green. It is for sale, if you want it. Don't know if you are a member of the Austin Rifle Club, I am usually on the 200 yard firing line training, almost everyday lately, even in 100+ degree days . We can meet up there tomorrow if you are interested.

If you intend to shoot the rifle in matches may I suggest - just get a green GI web sling. They are better than leather or Biothane slings

The last Saxet Austin show one of the vendors, Bill with the large aluminum bins, had USGI green cotton slings NIW from 1972 for $10 each. He should also be at the next San Antonio show first weekend in July. I would try and avoid the Chinese knock offs of this sling but you might try some of the Austin surplus stores.

Bamban's gone full circle. Ha ha. But he's right, USGI cotton slings are good and don't stretch like cheap leather. Look at his synthetic sling if you don't want cotton. If you want a heavy leather sling you can really use and abuse order one of John Weller's. Won't be cheap but there's none better.

I am on the range right now. If you guys want to join me, come on down. Tomorrow we'll have a match in Temple, welcome to join us there. Next week I'll be on the range every day except on Wednesday. You will find me on the high end of the 200 yard range. Send me a PM on what day you guys plan on going. The more the merrier.

+1 for the GI web sling. Simple and very effective. A lot like the M14 itself.

What length?

So I visited Turners Slings. I want to order the black leather sling, but not sure which length to get. They start at 50 inches and move up.

What length do you recommend?

I have a "Loaded" M1A.
I will be using the rifle mainly for shooting at my ranch and hog hunting.

Thanks so much.

If you don't want to wait on Les Tam this guy is a peer/friend of his, uses the same leather and quality standards

I went with the 52", but you need to estimate which one is good for you to avoid wasting the leather and having a sling too long. A phone call will probably answer any questions you may have. I am told my size is pretty average...
