Hello! I´m new! Questions on the DMR

Hello everybody,
I´m a new guy from Germany.
After tossing around with a Norinco M305,
I have sell it and try to get happy with
a nearly new SA M1A from my gunsmith.
After I get off the wood stock,
I try two used fibreglass G.I. stocks which i bought on E-Bay(dissapointing) :x
but think I need a McMillan A2 stock in O.D. :D
Together with it I put on a steel Sadlak mount with
a nearly new Leupold MK IV M3 6x.
Which Harris bipod(model?) use the USMC and how they fasten it to the stock?

Germanfritze,

Welcome on board Germanfritze, pull up an old ammo crate and sit awhile. This here Gun Board is a great place for information on M14/M1A Rifles. Again welcome aboard and have yourself a great week Sir. :D Someone should be by here any minute now to answer your questions, I need to get back to stacking my ammo crates now.

A quick run down on some of the different Army surplus manufactures out there for the M1A...

Australian ADI (Australian Defense Industries)/Aussie, good, stamped AFF or MF
Portuguese, good, stamped BF, second in line is FNM
Radway Green (British), very good, going up in price, NATO cross stamp
Lake City Army Ammunition, real good, cost is high, NATO cross stamp
German, stamped MEN and DAG, real good, cost is high when you can find it
Hirtenberger, real good, going up in price when you can find it, stamped HP
Santa Barbra (Spain), real good, stamped SB / 7.62x51
South Africa, good, stamped R1M1
Royal Ordnance (Indian), I would avoid it like the plague!

Just my opinion of course...

Oh by the way, has anyone talked to you about buying some good surplus ammo yet?

Rules of Ammo:

1) You can never have too much ammo on hand. 1k rounds per battle rifle is a good minimum to start with (fubar).
2) Supplies of good surplus run out before you know it, and usually when you're running low on ammo, so buy plenty while its available.
3) When in doubt about how much ammo you should buy, refer to rule #1.
4) Ammo is meant to be shot, so shoot often.
5) Because of rule #4, ammo must be replenished often as well.
6) When replenishing supply of ammo, refer to rules #1 through #3.
7) You must buy at least twice as much ammo as you shoot (fubar).
8: Always store ammo in a cool dry place (TEA).
9) If you don't have room in your house to store ammo per rule #8, build a bunker or a cellar in your back yard for storing ammo (TEA).
10) Friends don't let friends buy Indian surplus ammo (TEA). Or Never buy surplus ammo from a country where you wouldn't drink the water (midrat).

Thank you Corps,

I only shoot surplus ammo from MEN or DAG.
As comercial ammo I shoot PMC or FMP out of my .308
(2xH&K41 and M1A). 8)

Hi Fritze, and welcome to the forum. :)

I have what I call a "DMR clone" with the M2A stock, that I had custom built by an experienced M14/M1A gunsmith. I personally met with the General Manager at McMillan, Dick Davis, before placing my order for the stock. As an option (for an extra $6 USD) I had an additional sling swivel mount installed in the stock - this is an option, not standard. The extra swivel mount is on the forearm, so the sling attaches to one and the bipod attaches to the other.

I use the Harris S-BRM bipod, which has both the swivel and notched legs. I'm not sure if this is the same model that the USMC uses on their M14 DMR's but I think it's the most versatile model. The swivel and notched leg features are available on other models of different lengths, but the 9"-13" (22.86cm - 33.02cm) of the S-BRM is perfect for shooting the DMR in the prone position.

Here are some pictures of my rifle, and of the stock itself. Hope this gives you some helpful information. Send me a personal message if you have any questions. :)
