Just got my first M1A (SA full-size), and have been looking around for places to learn more about this family of rifles. This seems like the place.

Quick Bio: I'm an IT Manager who works for a Satellite Communications company out here in SoCal. When not working, I'm a shooter, a amateur photographer, and a computer geek. I do IT consulting on the side, and have just formed a new company to sell firearms accessories (include stocks from JAE, Sage, Troy, etc).

Anyway, this is a great forum, and I look forward to being a member of this community. :)

Welcome to the forum bigmike. LA has a couple of nice ranges up in the hills. Angeles and Burro Canyon come to mind. Both very nice and fun to visit. Enjoy the forum.

Welcome from another guy in the IT industry (though not really a geek). You found the right place to hang out with other M14 geeks though.

Glad to have you.

Welcome to the forum, I was told they closed those ranges cause of fire danger. Just curious, I left Cali a few years ago.

Yes, this seems to be "the place" for M14 (and copies) knowledge.

There seems to be allot of stuff in stickies or in old threads. They answer allot of questions that I didn't think to ask! DI5

Thanks for the warm welcome all!

I do go to Angeles quite often...Burro's a bit of a drive, so not too much. Still, not a bad selection of ranges out here...Angeles goes out to 1000 yards, as does BRC's up in Castaic.

WRA-MI, Angeles and Burro Canyon are still kicking. I think there were some temp closes over the years due to fires in the area's of both but there going strong now.

I think both ranges had fires of various types during the summer. Fortunately, neither was bad enough to cause a permanent headache.

Welcome, Big Mike. You've got a great rifle. It's just too bad that you can't accesorize it much, or use a 20 round magazine, living in California. I miss the beach since moving from there, but not the gun restrictions.

Truth! The gun laws here do suck, though the CGF (Cal Guns Foundation) is hard at work at restoring some sanity. Baby steps...but definitely in the right direction.

For my first one, my JAE stock should do fine in conjunction with a muzzle brake. Getting one with a SAGE or other tactical stock will require me to disable the mag release. A pain, but I still get to shoot it. :)

Well you COULD get the sage with a standard rifle stock, but to me at least, that seems heavy and kinda pointless.
