Hey everybody, my name is Richard. Lived on Oahu most of my life. Tried to go Army, but they pulled me out of basic on the 12th week, out of 15. I get da kine ah, flat feet. Among other problems that I didn't know I had with them feet (pes planus, plantar fasciitis, extra navicular bones, heel spurs, possible tendonitis). It's a more complicated story than that, since just having flat feet isn't exactly an automatic disqualifier, but I'll save myself from that embarassement.

So I'm a civilian that works at a (drumrolls) hotel in Waikiki, that couldn't let the valuable lessons I learnt at Ft. Benning go to complete waste. Thus I own an AR-15.

Working on getting myself a M1A. Always always loved those sexy beasts. But I bought an AR at first since that was what I was familiar with.

If you nice folks on Oahu know of any M1A armorers or somewhere I can get some work done on my M1A once I get it, do share! (or point me to the right direction in the forums)

Thanks guys!

Eastside oahu here, originally townie though. Did my time in the Navy just came back from a deployment to Iraq and now working on base doing construction. Not yet an M14 owner since I am not as familiar with the inner workings as an AR which I do have but looking at purchasing the parts to get a build together done hopefully by Smith Ent.

Bradduh Sanction & haunas

Wazzup bradduh Richard (Sanction) & Chris (haunas),

Love the screen name you got there haunas. If i recall my hawaiian language or pidgin english................your screen name means " Stinky ".DI5

Glad you both chimed in here so I can add your names in our Hawaiian Roster. Hey if you know anymore brother in arms in Hawaii interested in the M14/M1A rifle, do not hesitate to mention our great forum here. No Shame.GI2

As I mentioned in previous posts, this is a start in which I tend to organize with the help of members here a shooting event in which some day will be at Koko Head Shooting Complex, Neighbor Island Range or deer hunting on private land(HEAD HUNTER) using only our beloved M14/M1A rifles. An all out range day to see a full line/row of M14/M1A's at our own Firing Line will be an AWESOME sight.GI1

Not a local shooter(from mainland) but I have ties to Hawaii.

When I was a small kid we used to go back to Oahu for a month every summer to visit relatives. The first time I ever shot a firearm was at Koko head in the 80's. My Uncle was a big time shooter and he introduced me to the sport. I would be a Koko head "regular" for one month a year. He'd take me out every week while I was there. Also, that's the only place where I shot metallic sillhouette with my cousin.
I got a lot of memories at Koko head.
Checked out the range's website and happy to see my Uncle listed in the memorial.

Take it easy...K

Aloha ERDL,

What is the name of your uncle listed on our shooting complex's website? I am sure dighawaii probably knew him and or crossed roads at one time. Being that you chimed in here and have ties and history from the 80's...........that makes you a part of our Hawaii Shooter's Members List in my book.DI5

Mahalo's and no worries bradduh ERDL.........we get'um!

So what Haunas? You live the East side? What dat mean? Eh, we no live in LA you know! Say... windward side, God's country, or stuff that we all understand! GI6 Nah, I only making trouble cause I live in Kailua!

Das not junk pidgin talkin, that was my formal pidgin! GI6

And Sanction... you can tell it like it is! We know you get flat feet because you no wear slippers like the rest of us... GI6

Ok, ok... sorry guys, I was only trying to be a comedian... GI6 I have no idea what came over me tonight... GI8

It seems that we have a growing contingent of Hawaii members and that is EXCELLENT! I am happy to see so many people who are intersted in the M14 type rifle...

I find a great facination for the M1 Garand and the M14 type rifles as well. The simplicity of the design to me is outstanding. If I can be of any help, and time permitting, I would be happy to help the local shooters with their M14 needs, if I can.

Lester, you should be in SALES (or working in the HVB)! Good job!

Aloha!

Aloha Tom,

Is there a schedule of upcoming events for 2010, especially on Oahu or the Big Island? I might be able to escape for a day as my wahine's ohana is having a huge family reunion but I don't have a set date yet. I might be able to get my wife's cousin Ian to go out and shoot, he's a retired B-52 pilot (Korea and Vietnam, also POW) and the former Harbor Master in Hilo.

Aloha Tom,

I just found out it will be in N. Kohala on the Big Island (the family property is near King Kam's birthplace). It is tenatively set around the july 4th weekend. We had about 400 ohana there 10 years ago. Da kine grinds too! My wife's family is related to the Maui Chiefs Kekaulike & Kahekili.

You can PM me or I'll PM you with my info.

Wazzup bradduh nate68elky,

Windward side eh??? a few members live and work on the east side. If you ever decide to go out to Kokohead shooting complex, feel free to post a thread that you will be going there, that way you will not be the only one shooting a M14/M1A battle rifle. Good way to meet up other forums members who is able to have a "day in range" with ya.GI2

Aloha All!!

Kailua boy, moved to Kaneohe as an adult. Active Army 1974 to 1980. Then .... in November 2008 I got a call from Rock Island Arsenal and since January 2009 I'm back in the Army, this time at Fort Gordon, Georgia! Never been here before, except for changing planes in Atlanta. Back in the early 1970's I used to shoot 'um up with an M1 Garand. Handloaded all my ammo with a $10 Lee Loader ... still have the Lee too! Now I've added an M14 to the collection (not an M1A). Anyway, I'd sure like it if I could be a part of your collection of M14/M1A shooters! Mahalo! Richard
