I had a Gew98 and I found that the receiver is soft. The receiver lug seats recessed about 15 thousands or more.

Got the gauges to check my Gew 98
I got the gauge to headspace my Gew 98 with the new barrel closes on no go but doesn't close on field. Used 2 different bolts both didn't close on a field gauge. I ended up ordering a Gew 98 bolt with longer lugs for out of spec rifles I will see if it head spaces better or not
