What this is .....

Was submitted and posted across the street as well ...

Can't say that I have ever seen one like this before but it appears to be cast or it could be just the grain in the foto. Some have said that this possibly could be a fake receiver of some sort ...

Any ideas ...

It's a Japanese made highly realistic non-firing replica M14, the particular one in the picture is made by a company called HobbyFix, currently out of production, however another Japanese company Hudson also makes a M14 non-firing replica, and it is currently in production (see links below). They also have blank firing versions available.

Hudson also produces highly realistic replica guns such as the M1 Thompson SMG, M1 Garand, AK47, and etc.

Go here to see more replica M14http://www.wargameclub.com/cgi-bin/cart/shopper.cgi?itm_items_HS-RG-M14

and herehttp://www.wargameclub.com/cgi-bin/cart/shopper.cgi?itm_items_TC-RG-M14

and Hudson website (in japanese)http://www.hudson-mfg.com/default/products/01/index.htm#02

Hope this clears up some confusion

I'm the one that submitted this picture and I asked sixtgunr to post it, meanwhile I was looking for more information about it and that was what I found out.
