I have a Nov. 1993 built M1A NM Rifle,It has never been fired,I take it out and clean it every 6 months. I do shoot my other M1 A,s. Here is my question, yesterday I tried to turn my Spindal Valve and it would not budge, removed the roll pin ,still would not budge. Field stripped the weapon, here is what I found two screws through the front band and threaded all the way through the Spindal Valve. This is why it would not turn, also the spring had been removed from the Spindal Valve. Her is my question did Mr. Nelson do this to all of his National Match builds? I know he has passed away some time time back. Thanks for any information on this Spindal Valve question. SEMPER FI !

Yes, Glenn Nelson being a Army trained NM armorer Match conditioned the rifles sent too his shop per the Army's build spec. That means the G/C was screwed and glued together.

My NM inspection tag dates the rifle at April 28, '93. I can't read the signature but would this be a National Match by Glenn Nelson? Interesting trivia. Were their other gunsmiths that did this work for SAI at the time also?

Everyone who owns a NM or Super Match from back in the day thinks for some odd reason Glenn Nelson built or laid hands on every single rifle that rolled threw his shop, not true. Glenn had many smiths from the AMTU building rifles. Even old Hook Boutin a noted M1 NM builder would pitch in and help out from time too time.
