Sorry upfront if this is in the wrong part of the forum, but does anyone know where I can find a GI sling for a M1A or Garand?

I have seen beautiful leather, cheepo chinese made nylon and super tacticool stuff, but I want an old school style functional GI sling. New or older surplus in like new.

Springfield Armory has a sale through this weekend. You can find some GI slings there, cotton or leather.

Just posting for reference.

I'm a fan of the M1907 sling. I picked up mine at Fulton Armory.

I just bought an excellent heavy duty black canvas reproduction of the GI sling. The hardware is of excellent quality and the canvas is actually heavy duty. From amazon.com for $16.95, it's a little on the expensive side, but I'm very pleased with it.

If your looking for the USGI style cotton slings for M1 or M14, the ones with the metal buckle and the metal piece at the end that quickly detatches from the sling swivel, CMP sells them for something like $9.

Brownells used to sell some, but there were complaints. The two main complaints were:

1. Nylon ones buckle didn't clamp tight enough to keep the sling tight when using is as an accuracy aid
2. Near the buckle the sewn section was tripled instead of doubled. This caused a larger bunch of stuff that gets in the way

CMP's have only a double sewn section near the buckle, and they don't carry nylon.

Cons to ordering from CMP:
1. They don't always have them in stock (not really specific to CMP)
2. They sometimes take a long time to ship items
3. I think (not certain) that you have to be eligable to order from CMP
4. If ordering only one sling, shipping is almost as much as the sling (again not specific to CMP, likely going to get $5+ shipping anywhere)

You can order one from Treeline, or Charley's Surplus. I've bought from both.
What he said ^^

as an appleseed instructor I have about 15 of these on hand at all times, and sell them at cost to shooters on the line if they want. Charley's is my go to because they can ship to my door in about 2-3 business days. Treeline is fantastic also, but is a little further away from me.

triggernick -- you should look at making a batch order from CMP, I think shipping for my set was like $10 for 10 slings. At $8~ something a sling it was a pretty good deal. I also instruct at appleseed, we go through these pretty quickly since folks show up with all sorts of contrations as slings. The Appleseed project really stresses the use of the GI sling so getting a good ones important there.
