I traced my CMP SA SG Garand, (or its receiver anyway) back to a build date of May/June of 1942...What bayonet would be correct for that era and where might I start the search to find one at a reasonable price ??? Mike 8)

I got my bayo from FA, Mike. I don't know whether they would be able to hand pick one for you, but you might be able to call them and ask.

Of course, our good friend, Bill Ricca would be the first person I would turn to for information.

I'll move a copy of your post to his forum

Can't vouch for the accuracy, although I'd be willing to give them the benfit of the doubt until I find out otherwise, but here a few links that might be helpful.

Hope this helps.

The bayonet would depend on what you want as a CMP M1 would have parts that are from the 40's, 50's, and even 60's. In 42, the Bayonet in service was the 16" 1905 version. In 1943 the bayonet was changed to the 10" M1, and this was issued through Korea as I understand it. The 16" 1905's still in service were modified and cut-down to the 10" length by 1944. In 1953, the M5 7" bayonet was adopted. Around 55 or 56, the M5A1 was adopted and remained in service with the garand until the 70's.

So you see, it depends how you wish your rifle to look.

I got an M1 10" cut down bayonet with the correct modifed scabbard for $65 from Amerisurp.net. They look brand new unissued since the modification. I also got an M5A1 bayonet and scabbard from Northridge International that alos appears new, however it does not have the DAS stamp - but it looks good anyway. Check Ebay as I saw both of these for sale last week $10 was the starting bid for both.
