My 1987 Springfield M1a N.M. front sight is marked 072. Does any body know if it's G.I. of just S.A.I.
Thanks' John

Those were used on SAI Match rifles until just after the turn of the century. By coincidence, that happens to be the time period when Glen Nelson was building the match rifles for SAI.

There is no evidence that I know of to indicate that the 0.072 sight is USGI. It is my opinion that these were fabricated at the request or suggestion of Nelson, since he pretty much ran SAI's match rifle program during that period. They are much easier on older eyes that the standard 0.062 match sight.

I find the fact that SAI stopped using them at the same time Nelson stopped building match rifles to be an interesting coincidence.;)
