I was asked about replacing the SAI factory Socom front sight with one that has a thinner profile.

Because of the low deck on the Socom sight base/gas lock/muzzle brake, you might get away with using the highest sight available.

Standard USGI sight: 0.580
LRB Tanker sight: 0.668
SAI Scout Tall sight: ).690

A comparison photo is below. The LRB in the center has a short base, with a tall blade in wings.

Great picture. I had a couple of unknown height front sights and was able to quickly determine that both were standard height. Thx!

I wonder if filing the blade thinner would be sufficient.
The Socom blade is wide because is has a substantial Tritium insert. Filing the blade thinner would weaken the support of the capsule.

While filing a blade is certainly a viable option, I don't think it provides the crisp sight picture that a properly milled blade offers.
