I'm picking up a Loaded M1A this weekend and I'd like to put a lugged flash suppressor on her. I understand the whole reamed vs non reamed USGI ones available. I'd like to stick with a reamed NM lugged one. I was given this by a friend but he has no idea of its ID. What can you tell me from the pictures if anything. On the front sight it looks like it is stamped NM062

Looks like a commercial lugged flash hider with a current style National Match front sight. I can't tell if the flash hider is reamed without seeing the muzzle.

SA, check the following links/threads. I believe I read detail as how to i.d from the cut of the splines. NM F/H bore should differ from std. having a bore diameter, the NM, of .401". I have one I know is USGI vs. commercial with square vs. rounded splines. I need to go through these again meself, but right now wrapped around the axle with all kinds of weird scrit and don't want to pass on incorrect info. IF all else "fails" keep in mind Mike Restivo at Windy City Sourcing has pristine USGI NM Flash Suppressors not listed on his website. I spotted them on GB and emailed him to get it w/o waiting on the auction. What he sent is perfect must be NOS or damn close judging from the splines and appearance of machining. Clint McKee at Fulton Armory has very nice quality commercial version for $60. Less if you wait for his 10% Christmas discount. Our own Huey Gunner sells them too and/or can ream then re-finish one for you. The following contain solid info by guys who know what they're talking about way more than me, but some of the pics aged out probably because of disk space requirements....

and again about the "ring" or "ping" test. I could never tell off the three I have as they all sound like some variation of a "pings" or "rings". One or other/s is probably cast vs. forged which Lee Emerson wrote were both made as USGI and accepted by DOD. EDIT: What Kurt said below. Like this here NM on left (Check splines too. The one you show looks like it may be mushroomed(?) at the top (back). Hard for me eyes to tell:

Thanks guys, bear with me as I'm only a SOCOM owner. I'm guessing mine is not reamed by comparing it to MIC52's pictures. So if I were to buy a lugged flash hider I would want a reamed one vs non reamed?

Sir, your front sight is a USGI NM. It is an original, I have three with one still in the wrapper bought from the same source.

As for your flash suppressor it is what appears to be a commercial copy.
