Somewhat new to reloading and identifying brass issues. Reloading the M1A for the first time. I am using once fired Federal brass. I am a little skittish the first time reloading the M1A the first time. Does the brass below look like it has issues? thanks

Can't really give you an answer without hearing what processes you have gone through so far.

Best advice?

-Place the case in a Wilson Case Gauge.

-Watch some youtube videos to get more comfortable reloading for the M1A:

Here are some good ones to get started:

Are you talking about those tiny dings?

Those are normal from ant semi-auto....

When the case ejects from an M1/M14, it hits the sloped portion on the underside of the stripper clip guide. It is then usually knocked forward by the camming hump on the operating rod.

I can figure out how many times one of my cases has been fired by the number of dings in it.

If your Federal brass has FC on the headstamp, you can usually get at least 2 reloads out of it before the primer pocket starts to open up. If it has .308 Win on the headstamp, I usually reload it once and then toss it.

That brass is way too shiny. Most of the knowledgeable shooters with sub MOA rifles (all models of Springfield Armory Inc. ) know that the lack of friction in the chamber with polished brass will cause wobble as the case never sets during firing.

New brass especially Winchester will sometimes have bad spots in them. Just cull them out. Probably safe to shoot a couple times but will likely split after that. Bunch of bad ones with creases in the necks in my latest 30/06 brass.

Those small dents may come out while firing. Totally normal.
Case gage is a must. Have fun.
