This was aired a few months ago,
I thought it would make an interesting addition as a tribute to the aircraft , those that built her , and those who flew and fought in her.
It also deserves a look by simply being one of the increasingly rare occasions that something was on broadcast Tv actually worth watching .
[that alone is almost as rare as the B-29 itself]

Doc's definitely something else and lots of folks in Wichita are pretty proud of the work that's been put into restoring him.

I thought I'd heard that Doc's on static display today and open for public tours. Considering that the temps are in the 70's now it'd be a beautiful day to visit.

Thanks for sharing I love to see the old Warbirds restored. It reminds me of my DAD. He was the Chief mechanic for a P-38 lighting during the war. The planes that have been restored will also restore the memories of the men that flew and worked on them. Thanks again

Sad story about another one I saw in a documentary a few years ago. Her name was "Kee Bird", a B-29 that originally had to make a forced landing in a remote area of Greenland 100's of miles from nowhere and mostly intact.

An expedition was mounted to try and bring her back, and they intended to fix and fly her out, they spent years fighting weather, illness, lack of funds and disappointing setbacks building an airstrip to take-off from, finally they felt they had it right and it was now or never or they'd have to wait another year for good weather, it taxied and was ready to go, then some short circuit caused smoke, then a fire and she burnt to the ground.

Damn shame...

An unsecured generator in the tail fell over and caught fire. If someone had properly mounted/secured the generator, it would be flying today.

There's one inside the main gate at Whiteman, the sheet metal is very wrinkled, I think it was a weather bird as its last tour. Was painted as the Enola Gay is the 90s, the the Grand Artist. More politically and historically correct. Recently they moved the Huey, a B-47 and a Miniite Man Missle to new digs.

Thanks for posting this.
Growing up I sometimes worked for a man who was a navigator in B-17 then B29's...
His funeral was enlightening! Was on one of the planes and wish my memory was better... But he did help end the war
