Not so long ago i could get my hands on a unfired FN49 serial#09. In the same vault there was this nice SADF R1. as a bonus, it had a hidden message inside... Searcut and fullauto ; ) When i inspected the handguards, i found this soldiers grafitti. I love it ...

I read somewhere they wore shorts to allow them to avoid getting their shirts and pants snagged in the bush.
They got the idea from natives many years ago who could move silently through the bush.
I've seen many pictures of English wearing shorts in WWII also.
A cousin of mine enlisted in the army right out of high school, the brown boot army, 1957, 1958??? He gave me a bunch of his old uniforms and in the pile were a bunch of Khaki shorts he was issued.
Vietnam guys: What about this? Any idea why the US didn't issue you guys shorts too?

I think you are correct. I was going to joke and say its an M240. LOL. The M240 is from that lineage.

Ever look at pictures of the "kids" the US sent to Vietnam?
Other than the shorts there is little difference.

Yes - and I have commented on that as well.
It just doesn't seem right to be put into that situation at that age.
