Welcome aboard. Strange to see it missing the butt plate and front sling swivel.

Could have been leftover unfinished piece or even a reject ,I've seen a few wood stocks that were not finished ,no metal raw wood .
Earliest fiberglass stocks were smooth ,no checkering.

Below is a raw USGI fiberglass stock, circa 1964, with metal. You can see the white fibers in the plastic and the green epoxy holding the halves together.

The stock in front is one from the same period, as issued, with primer and baked on enamel. Behind it is one from the 1992 run.

Fulton Armory has sling swivels and ferrules. Buttplate assemblies are priced according to manufacturer and condition.

What is the history on the 1992 run fiberglass stocks?.. Were these made by or for Springfield Inc or USGI?

Not at all. Just need to make sure to find the correct upper buttplate screw with it's retainer, buttplate, rear sling swivel and bolt. Front sling swivel and screws are also available.
Kurt, do you have a scale that can discern the weight difference in ounces between the thicker 1992 stocks versus the 1960s stocks? Just curious, I’ve never handled the 92 stock.

The 1992 run are USGI. There was a need for them after the first Gulf war.

I have one NIB that was relabeled for issue in 2010.

I see a lot of them in the photos of the M14's that went to Estonia and Latvia, now in the Ukraine.

Fwiw, I picked up one of those 1992 era USGI fiberglass stocks on eBay recently. I decided for $125 shipped might as well have one, since it was the last of the USGI fiberglass M14 stocks made. The downside is that for some reason a previous owner painted it a medium green color, so I am carefully stripping off paint with CitrisStripper. The good news is the stock itself is in great shape and was likely never used on a rifle as it lacks finish wear on the ferrule, and I don't think a buttplate had ever been installed on it either. As received:

In process - just need to remove that last 10 to 15% of the non-original green paint.

Might be hard to read, but the molding data says "92" and the arrow points to the "2." So my guess is this stock made made in February 1992.

Getting the paint out of these crevices is not fun...I took it to the self-serve car wash and used high-pressure water to get under the paint as best I could, but still a very tedious task...

Just an random spring project regarding these 1992 era stocks.

Just sprayed some citristrip soaked green paint off this eBay snag myself.

What a mess, but 95% there.
