One of the areas often overlooked when cleaning the M1A/M1 is the face of the Bolt.. One minutes effort can prolong the life as well as the function of the Bolt.

Most owners do not field strip the rifle for general cleaning, good idea.. With the Bolt locked to the rear, use a lightly dampened solvent patch through the ejection area, locate the patch over the face of the Bolt, with a small screw- driver press against the patch working around the recessed area. If you have one of those green GI brushes, use the small end under the extractor .. Repeat the same with a clean dry patch, Do NOT saturate the Bolt face, just dampened it lightly. You do not want any solvent finding it's way to the interior of the Bolt.. On the interior subject, do not use any lube on the Firing Pin, ever.. Lube the extract and ejector springs very lightly, keep lube it out of the firing pin hole.. Art L.
