Customized by Cylinder and Slide's shop years ago
…same here, about 15 years ago. They installed their target sear (used on the old Competition Hi-Power model) - which uses a different pivot point - note the extra hole in the slide for the new roll pin:

This pistol has the SFS hammer/safety system. So it looks like it’s carried hammer down, but it’s under tension and swipping either ambi-safety off, allows the hammer to automatically move to the cocked position. Another oldie but goodie pistol.

FWIW, Bill Laughridge is retiring and C&S will soon close their doors.

I'll share.... I did this for my wife about 15 years ago. It's a "T" series s/n so made back in the 60's. Removed the magazine disconnect and a trigger job done to it as well as I shipped the slide to Novak and had a set of Novak sights installed.

The 9mm BHP are by far my favorite go to pistol for 9mm.

She keeps two loaded mags ready for the gun with Winchester Black Talons.

I bought this one about 12 years ago, and the finish was in really poor condition. The previous owner had attempted to remove the mag disconnect, and butchered the finish. I sent it to a local company, which removed and repaired the gouges, then put on a Cerakote finish in SOCOM blue, as noted in the photo and slicked up the action. I added the Hogue slims stocks, and it's become a really fun gun to shoot, although like the 1911 full-size, it's a bit large for a daily carry.

Adding a Hi-Power (High Power) to my collection is on my short list of "to gets" (quite literally #1 or #2 right now). I'm mostly interested in just having one to shoot for the "compare and contrast" experience. (I already have several handguns in my EDC rotation and which I shoot a lot to practice, so not so immediately interested in adding another EDC or for casual competition.)

However, I haven't been able to decide how to approach the acquisition.

I'm super tempted to source one of the new Springfield Arms SA-35 or the Girsan offering (the SA-35 being nearer to the original, so there is that). On the other hand, I'm also constantly tempted to get a used FN P35 and perhaps do some restoration and light maintenance on it. There's no doubt something to be said for having an FN original (probably a MkII or MkIII).

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Follow up generalized question on the 'Hi-Power' name...

Is that "hi" as in "hello?"
My understanding is that if it's an FN sold gun, the spelling is "Hi Power," but if it was sold by Browning in the US the trademark spelling is "High Power." A matter of marketing and the European vs. US sales targeting.

SGM and all,

If you want to understand Hi-powers check out the Hi-Powers and Handguns Web-Site. This is Steven Camp's (R.I.P.) old sight, but is a stunning compilation of Hi-Power lore. Just do it...you won't be sorry. I have any number of 9mm's...Sigs, CZ's, and Berettas. but there is no better fighting nine than the Hi-Power.
SGM, get a new Springfield or Girsan. I don't think you will go wrong.

I love BHP's, just don't care much for 9mm. Best of both worlds, a BHP in .40S&W. Millett sights, fully adjustable. I love the silver chrome finish, looks like stainless steel. Mine is from 1995, (MkIII), factory grips were Pachmayr, but I replaced them with smooth cocobolo Hogue grips. I also removed the magazine disconnect. It's the most accurate pistol I have.

I have one of the FN, Israeli surplus Hi-Powers. Got it for the comparative experience. I have short fingers, and before the current crop of compact double stacks, this one was the only one I could hold and control comfortably. I don't carry full-size pistols so the latest and greatest features are not important. I wanted as close to an original experience as I could get. These came in through AIM several years ago and were reportedly IDF surplus. Have a black, expoxy-paint type of finish. Not pretty but very serviceable.
