:?: How does the Dewey cleaning rod guide for the M14 work? Does it fit over the flash hider? Does it matter if it is a standard USGI flash hider or a NM reamed USGI flash hider?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I just bought one. Have not actually used it yet but it fits very nice on my FS and keeps the rod centered in the bore to protect the crown. My rifle is a SA M1A "Loaded" and the FS is unaltered. Not sure if a supressor that had been reamed would cause any problem with the fit. Dont think it would

It works fine with either a reamed FS or regular.

Yes, it fits over the FS and covers about half of it.

The only thing to remember is to put it on the rod before you put the patch on the jag, I always forget.

I use a Dewey cleaning rod and jags. Somthing else I've seen but dont have yet is an insert that, with the bolt back, sets in the bolt area to catch the patches and it keeps the cleaning rod from going back into the bolt causing it to release (Man :!: Do I hate when I do that) This insert is from CreedmoorSports.com The rest is just normal stuff, Shooters Choice, bronze or copper bore brushes, chamber brush, Remlube, somthing to clean the bolt lug areas.

I bought a Dewey cleaning rod guide and it has too large a ID for the SA compensator, and too small for a Smith compensator/brake. I don't own a USGI Flash suppresor, but I expect that is what it was made to fit.

I never thought that the Dewey guide fit USGI very well and made my own out of a piece of nylon rod. I drilled the rod hole on center then drilled out the larger flash suppressor hole to clearence od. of flash suppressor. I made mine about 3" long so that it didn't wobble around on the flash suppressor. Also, I use a stripper clip to hold the bolt open and always clean the rifle upside down to keep excess bore cleaner out of the gas system and most of the gunk out of the receiver.

Thought I better correct my post from 1-29. I was reading Scott Duffs book that I just got and he says NOT to use oil (Remlube) on the M14/M1A. The correct lubes are Plastilube, Lubriplate, Tetra or GI Rifle Grease. Guess I should have got this book a long time ago

I took a 3" fired 12 gauge hull, punched out the spent primer, drilled out the flashole to the appropriate size for my Dewey cleaning rod, and presto!! Cleaning rod guide on the cheap that works for me.
