ok finally found Dad's paperwork. he was on U.S.S. Chopper, SS342. he was on board as a forward torpedo hand in 1948 with six yrs reserve after that. like most of these boats it had a Guppy up fit done to it in the '50s. this boat has some history even though it was built too late for the war. it was involved in a diving accident where it lost power & como & dove almost vertical to over 1000 ft then surfaced just as fast bow up! I still have not found the picture of the boat with dad & crew but will post it when I do. meanwhile I found a video shot by a crewman in 1950. if life aboard a diesel electric interests you then you will like this. man, these boats were LABOR INTENSIVE!USN2

I don't know when the film was made, but toward the end you will see the USS Archerfish SS 311. The Archerfish came out of mothballs/inactivation around 1952. So that should give some idea when it as made.....
