Several years ago I traded for a Model 37 D.C. Police. This shotgun is an 8-shot with black wooden stock. Has eagle/glove/anchor on stock, but that could have been added by previous owner. It is either nickel plated or matte stainless steel. Which? Am told this was a special production for Marine/Navy guard duty in salt water environments. I remember carrying a shotgun in the 1960's as a Marine guarding ammo depot bunkers where rifle's were prohibited, but I don't remember model or type. The shotgun has a 20" barrel, 2-3/4 chamber (not 3"), rifle sights - front ray-bar. #37174xxxx. Just curious since others I've seen at gun shows are either 5-shot or blued/parked finish. This gun shoots 3" groups at 50 yards with slugs, but throws #00 so wide it won't put 3 in a 30" circle at 50yds. Kicks like a mule! What's the story on this thing?

Surplus61,
Sounds like you have an Ithaca M37 riot gun. IIRC, they came with a cylinder bore (open or no) choke. I wouldn't shoot 00 Buck past 25 yards with it (pattern opens up too far). Also, it's probably a featherlight. That sounds to me why it kicks like a p!$$*d off mule
