Me, I'd buy a new barrel to my "spec" an leave that barrel alone. This sounds like it's gonna be expensive if the barrel is nothing special and much head ache. See if the company that made the barrel will do the job. I forsee lots a work for an expensive tooled pipe.
As for adding metal treaded tube and with glob of JB Weld on to the barrel.

I have a M1A. It is a couple years old and came with a GI trigger (TRW).
It is easy enough to flick the safety off, but putting in on pretty much requires the use of the thumb... too much force required for the trigger finger.

The safety on my new SAI std is pretty stiff. I popped out the trigger group and noticed as I engage the safety the hammer is slightly drawn back leaving me to believe there isn't really anything I can do to lighten the safety. Are there any tricks?
Is this just a characteristic of the rifle?
