The SKS Yugo stock had to be put in the top rack. Sounds bass ackwards, but I couldn't get it to fit in the bottom without blocking the auto-rising column. In the top you can (should?) angle the stock so that the top propeller can still rotate. Lay it on its side and drop the rear low down in one corner and the front end high in the opposite corner. Worked (barely) for an SKS, dont' know if it would for something bigger. Good luck.
Diesel fuel worked on jeep parts. Still lots of elbow grease and lots of rags though. For wood, if you are trying to remove finish as well, go with Easy Off Heavy Duty oven cleaner. Anything that removes oil/grease will remove the oil finish on stock too.
