FYI here are some pics of my CMP "Special." They've done a couple of version of specials. This one has cmp walnut stock, new barrel, fresh park. Some have had as-new GI metal in a new stock. I paid about $900 for this and IMO it was worth it. However, IMO the Service Grades are the way to go if you want a shooter for far less money. A few pics of my service grades are below.

iirc they only charge when they ship. If you register on the e-store you can follow the progress of your order. They'll send you what's commonly called the "don't bother us" email when they submit your order for processing. Figure on about a month. They seem to be filling orders more quickly lately than during the Obamascare. But it's not set in stone so don't set your watch by my estimation. :)

Do you guys know the differences between the CMP Special, and the Service Grade Special? They're both excellent rifles, BTW.
Are you asking as a trivia question?

The CMP "special grade" has a new walnut stock, new commercial barrel, possibly some other mixed new commercial parts, and fresh parkerization.

The service grade special is basically a correct grade rifle with all excellent GI parts, with the exception of a new stock.

Of the two, I'd go with the service grade special.

However, I have a "special" (bought via this forum) and it's really nice.

Do you have any pictures of the CMP Cartouche that is stamped on it?

Im looking at ordering one as well, and I really like the idea of getting a Garand that doesnt need to be worked on. But the "Special" has their stamp on it - and I was wondering how big it is, and where its at.
3 posts up, 3rd pic. Not the best pic but you can tell where it is and how big it is. This is on the special. On service grade they use a round cartouche on the commercial stock grip cap area. Or at least one of mine came with it.
