Aloha,

I ordered a couple of barrels from CMP and they arrived today!

This is the Douglas Chrome Moly 1-10 Twist Heavy Barrel.

This is the Hart Stainless Steel 1-11 Twist Heavy Barrel.

Both barrels side by side...

Now, I have something for future projects! I would like to have USGI barrels, but they are no where to be found! And, since these were really priced right, I decided to buy a couple!

Both appear to be brand new!

Aloha and Best Wishes,

Tom O.

Aloha Kivaari:

I really don't know how short the chambers might be. I have not gauged the chamber but I believe that I read that the chambers are short chambered and need to be final reamed and properly headspaced.

I definitely won't be installing my own barrels only because I don't have the proper equipment to do it. So, it the project rifles will definitely get sent out for barrel installation... Good advice! I will make sure they are headspaced for .308 and not 7.62 NATO.

Hey sweet barrels.

As far as the Douglas barrels I believe they have 0.050 extra that needs to be final reamed to headspace to .308 1.632 inch. When I torqued on my Barnett heavy barrel on my receiver the bolt would just start to go into the locking lug opening. On my Kreiger barrel I believe it is 0.010 - 0.020 inch short chambered (my next LRB NM build).

Here are pics of the work I did on the Barnett barrel.

Very cool Tom, what receivers will you put them on? 8O

I'll come clean & admit that the std chrome lined barrels on my rifles are more accurate than I am. The USGI contour SAK barrel on my preban M1A is definately wasted ATM, so I don't shoot it much yet.

Aloha...

Mark, looks like you're all setup to install barrels! Very Cool! I have never explored that area... yet. Nice pics!

Quag, I haven't decided which projects will get these yet, but since the supply of USGI barrels were dwindling or being sold at some unGODly price. These barrels made sense to buy... I might use them as back up for the SM rifles if I should wear out one of those barrels. They are commercial "heavy" barrels anyway.

Having these barrels and a few spare parts allows me some flexibility on different projects that have been flying around in my head.

CMP Barrels

Tom,
I also received my new Hart 1 in 11" heavy barrel today. Ordered Sunday, received Friday. WOW!! The E-store really has it's act together this week. Did you see that they have run out of this twist already?
Saw an ad on Ebay where someone listed one of these same barrels with a "Buy It Now" of $325.......And got it. That's a quick $94 profit the way I figure it. Not exactly in keeping with the intent of the CMP however.

Aloha Oregunner:

Congrats on getting one! I know that when I ordered mine, I saw that they had like 8 left, but I knew they wouldn't last long...

If that person on Ebay is selling his CMP barrel to make a buck, while it not being against the law, is in poor form... I understand if you buy something and then decide you don't want it and sell it at a profit... that, of course, makes sense. But the AH's who only see CMP as a means in which to get cheap parts to sell on Ebay to make a fast buck is definitely not following the spirit of what CMP intended... Of course, no one could really prove it, but they are the ones who are really taking the parts from us!

Well, I am happy that some of us got some of these barrels!

Aloha,

Tom O.
