I was so stoked at getting Rooster's cheek rest, I decided to install it right away! I have always felt that the stock that I made looked odd with a Scope Eze on it. It looked okay for some of the other rifles but I wanted something adjustable (to use irons and a scope) and matched the stock... well, I got my wish!
This is with the cheek rest installed. Skullboy posted some great procedures and I used them to complete this installation...
This small difference in height is perfect for me!
On each side is a hex head screw and simply loosening the screw/bolt, allows the cheek rest to move up or down.
The rifle inside is an Armscorp receiver, Douglas "heavy" barrel, NM gas cylinder, FH, sights, op rod guide and op rod spring guide, trigger group with USGI parts.
Sits on a Harris bipod.
This stock really fits me well, and I feel fortunate that this project has turned out as well as it did! BTW: I do have some installation pictures taken while doing this cheek rest installation... and can post if you would like me to.
Thanks for letting me share a bit of this project with all of you! And a special Thanks to Rooster who made this cheek rest and Skullboy who wrote that fantastic installation procedure!
Once again, that is the most beautiful rifle I have seen. Its a hard choice between Hawks tactical stock and yours because both have features that I like, but I think id pick the triangular front end with a nicer grip and It would be set for me. I have to pick up some fiber glass and epoxy and start fiddling on my own!
Good work Tom. that is an awesome set-up. I like that stock, it looks like a very stiff forend. was that a USGI fibreglass that you beefed up? nice work, I want a stock like that. that is my next project. the way a fellow gunnut calls it "THE HEAVY ". thanks for sharing.

Tom,
you have great taste in scope, mount and rings. I use the exact same thing. that is a 10x SS tasco is it not? how tight are those rings on the bases? mine don't seem to be very tight but I shoot 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds, so I am not complaining, just curious. thanks,
rooster
This is a "heavy"!!! Especially with the Douglas heavy barrel in there! It weighs a ton! The bedding I am sure adds even more weight. But it feels really good to hold and shoot.
I have the ring screws torqued to about 18 in-lb. And this setup has really done me well. It is a Tasco SS 10X scope on there sitting on an ARMS #18 mount with ARMS #22M rings.
The accuracy of this rifle is outstanding... now it is up to me to develop better consistency. I usually have excellent 3 shot groups but when it comes to the last two, I must lose concentration and the groups will open up. But I am happy with the way she looks, feels and shoots.
Notice, I don't have the talent like SixT, Skullboy and the other fine artists, so I did what I could and painted it "one" color! At least it all matched!
Tom,
you can't have all your rifles dressed the same, all camo, you need Sunday clothes as well, and it turned out well. what you lack in art you make up for in other ways. look at me, I'm colour blind.
with the arms mount and rings, how tight are the rings on the mount? mine if you try you can just about slide it back and forth, whatever the take-up of the cross bolts in the slots of the mount. is this normal or what. I take the scope off and it always returns to zero, even if I put the scope onto an other rifle. just turn the turrets back and whalla, zero. it just is not very tight like on my sniper rifle with the leupe Mark 4 rings. but I like the QD side of the ARMS rings.

I just tried moving my scope back and forth on the mount and it won't move. At least not today... maybe if I keep taking it off and putting it back on, it will loosen up some. But, right now, it's tight.
On another rig, I have Leupold QD rings on a Tasco SS 10X scope and they also work really well with the ARMS #18 mounts. That scope I put on and take off frequently... but they work really well... at least so far... knock on wood.
As for the stocks, you are right! I realized that I needed some show stocks so I am making sure that I have a camo stock and a wood stock for each rifle! I just have to work that much harder to buy all the stuff I want! Which, by the way, never ends!!!
Did ya see... I got a NM from SixT!!! Yaaahooo!!! With one of them "Tigers" that he is always showing pics of!
