Have come across an M14 with markings only on the heel of the receiver.
US Rifle 7.62mm M14/S
Century Arms Inc
St Albans, VT
Serial number is C-xxxx. It has lug and slotted flash hider. I figure a Chinese receiver with US parts assembled by Century. Any info and comments on quality would be appreciated.

It's a Polytech Industries M14S imported by Century Arms International. Their Polytech M14s have a "C" letter prefix. I recently verified this with CAI. Your rifle was imported after March, 1989 and prior to September, 1994. Best guess is that your rifle was imported around 1989 or 1990. I have updated the information on the Chinese M14 rifles and you'll see it when the next update for M14 Rifle History and Development is posted at www.imageseek.com/m1a

Ive also seen the "C" prefix serial #'s with NORINCO marked heels. Something like:
M14 Sporter
Norinco China
CAI ST. Alb. VT. (or some such jibberish)
Thanks, Lamey. There are some Federal Ordnance M14SA receivers with the "C" prefix serial number too. CAI confirmed that these receivers were made for them to assemble into rifles with Chinese parts kits.

I did had a Fed. Ord. that had simular markings on the heel, was afraid of it because :?: , traded it in on a scout/squad and got what I had in it, but it really was decent looking rifle and shot o.k.
