After installing the EBR trigger and hammer set, I can only engage the safety when the bolt is pulled half way back or further. With hammer cocked, and bolt closed, the safety lever will not move. Am I missing something here?

Take the trigger group out, the hammer and try to engage the safety. You will see if there is interference or improper fit between the hammer and the safety finger.

I had to file mine after installing GI hammer and trigger.

May need minor filing on the safety finger.

Take the trigger group out of the stock and see if it still happens.
The safety basically 'cams over' a nub on the hammer, and if that nub is too high with the hammer cocked, then the safety can't override it.

Pulling the oprod backward forces the rear of the bolt to push the hammer backwards and a little lower and that lowers the nub. on the hammer.

Compare the position of that nub on the EBR hammer with the one from the original hammer.

Is this the ShootingSight EBR trigger?

Is the disconnector adjusted correctly so that you have a second stage, and the trigger cycles as it should? The safety does 2 things: it latches over the front edge of the hammer, but it also has a step that cams in front of the trigger sear to prevent the trigger from being pulled. If your trigger is not in the full forward position, you cannot engage the safety.

So this makes me think somehow the trigger has not reset properly, which can happen if the adjustment on the disconnector is mis-set.
