After about a year or so of wondering and being confused about what reloading press to buy, I finally got set straight and pulled the trigger on one. I purchased a Hollywood turret press off of ebay.
I have spoken to several people over the last year asking for there opinion. I was pretty sold on the idea of a turret press but heard differing opinions. The hollywood turret press is still in production and I have the contact info for anyone interested. The new turret press sells for, are you sitting down? $1000.00. Yeah thats what I said too. I recently made a new friend here on the forum, PFC Thomas. He is well versed in pretty much all the stuff on the market today and well yesterday as well. I mentioned what I was looking for in a press and he mentioned a couple in his reply but this hollywood press is one I could not find easily on the internet. He mentioned he may have a buddy that was looking to part with one and dropped a dime on him. We were still waiting on his reply when he saw the one I purchased on ebay. I was on the fence weather or not I should bid and I am glad I did. Its not new but it was half price, came in at 485 shipped. It is an older one, I am not sure when it was made but I hope to get some info from the seller in time. I have 24 lbs of powder,9000 primers and now my vintage turret press. I am on my way!!!!!!!!!

I let a buddy talk me out of my Star progressive reloading station a few months ago. It was a neat setup but I was a bit tired of finding parts and modifying parts to keep it up and running. I reloaded .32 S&W Longs, .45 ACP, 9mm and 40S&W on it. I still haven't replaced it. I was intending to get a Dillion RL650B but have been too busy buying other stuff to make the expendature.

There was something very satisfying about having something different from the herd, though............................. Congrats on the purchase!!!

Congratulations on your purchase 82nd. I'm not familiar with the Hollywood turret press, but it sounds like a bad mamajama. Your happy with it thats all that matters.Seems like you got for a good price on it as well. Your on your way, don't look back. Good luck with it. Nick

Thanks gents! I tried getting the pics from the eBay auction but was unable to copy them. All it would let me do is save them as a weblink or something like that. I'll copy and paste a link to the auction, you can see it there for now. Im pretty excited about learning this new craft without blowing myself up, lol

82nd ABN,

I'm chuckling because I do the same thing on many "vintage" American Made items. I think you did good. I Googled around "Hollywood Engineering" and came up with all sorts of interesting stuff. Lots of chatter over where the guys reload 50 BMG ammo. I'm looking at upgrading my reloading setup also. Keep us posted on your progress.

Will do. I just got off the phone with Hollywood engineering. Right off the bat I need two part. One is a tie rod that is used during swaging bullets and the other is one of those little handles that helps you turn the turret. The handles make the turret look like a old sailboat steering wheel. Both pieces are available, however I am going to go to the local machine shop and see if he can make the threaded rod piece for me. The new one does not appear to be made the same as the old one. The new one uses a nut on the top where as the old one looks like it has the nut or cap built into the rod. We will see
