I'm pretty sure I lapped thru surface hardness on a bolt.
Are these surface hardened?
Is there a 'smith that re-surfaces bolt lugs?

How many questions does a guy get on one post? Thanks

I'm not positive turq but I would think that they are hardened and I am sure one with more knowledge than I will respond here.

As for the number of questions per post ... ???

Fire away as there is no restriction on that ...

Might have been hardened to .0020", I don't know.

You could test the lapped suface for hardness. Did you achieve proper headspace, by the way?

Even with skyrocketing GI bolt prices, it would not pay off to remove roller, strip, re-heat treat, refinish, install new roller, etc of your bolt.

Did you lap against the receiver too much? Now that can get pricey if you ruin the receiver bolt lugs.

Good luck.

I was lapping and checking ; lap-check, then when I expected the cleaned up bolt to lock over on a GO it was locking on a NO-GO. put in new TRW lapped a little and it was d. near perfect. But I don't feel good about selling that bolt, so I asked.
