I have an AR, . . . looks 90% like a Vietnam M16, . . .

Thinking about putting a bipod on it.

Sure could use some help with this one, . . . because I'm not using the fold up thing they gave us back then, . . . I want a REAL, HONEST TO GOODNESS, bipod on the thing.

Would also like it to be quickly dismounted from the rifle.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

May God bless,
Dwight

A couple of companies, such as Versa-Pod, make adapters that attach to the bayonet lug. Unfortunately, it ends up looking like an Erector set.

I remember seeing M60 bipods on M16's, but I never looked closely to see how it was done. They were permanent installations.

Take a look at Atlas bipods, quick release, have 1 for my AR 15/10 that I swap out. Doubt it will work on your rifle. But you might be able to engineer, a rail of some kind. Never used bipod on the issue 16's, but 1 time, auto fire in Basic. Please send feed back If you locate, design, or find a decent bipod, for a 16 of that era

Promag makes a great mini rail that utilizes the bayo mount and requires removing the front sling swivel.
It won't look out of place on a classic M16-style rifle. For a bipod, look for an NCstar quick release M2 bipod. It looks great on an M16: NcS-ABUQ14

Drill Sergeants used them for auto-fire demonstration in basic at Ft. Polk in '74. After that I never saw one again at any of my two duty stations, Ft Hood or Worms, Germany. -Lloyd BEERCHUG1

can you post a picture of your AR .

What kind of hand guards Round or triangle?

can you take the flash hider off ?

Maybe a Fal bi-pod ?

Hit goggle search got a lot of pictures.
It has the triangular hand guards and the three fingered flash hider.

I have a Vietnam era bipod that clamps on the barrel , just wanted something better.

Wish I could mosey over to the arms room and requisition an M60 bipod.

Gonna have to look at some more at the next gon show

May God bless,
Dwight

The clamp on bipods were around right up until the M249 went into service.

They worked OK for suppressive fire. The big problem is that they were only held on by spring pressure and would easily pop off when moving thru brush.

Usually, military equipment is designed by geniuses and used by idiots, but in the case of this bipod it is the other way around. RNGR2

Shoot off your back pack or sling up. You were born with a shooting platform. A good cotton sling works very well. It seemed impossible to get that through troops heads. The problem with those handguards when it comes to attaching things is the way they are split. Might look around for some short shooting sticks if you must. Easy and cheap.
