So I took out my new EBR setup to the range for the first time. Recoil definitely felt lower. Maybe because its new to me but it was even more fun to shoot (if possible) than the prior two years. I have the stainless steel med barrel. So my question is approx how many rounds can I expect to get out of the SS barrel? I ask because I can see myself shooting plenty more. Especially when my friends see it, I am sure they will like it and have to put a few rounds downrange.

Average life is 5000 to 7500 rounds but depends on how good a shot you are to begin with to notice it. It also goes fast, flier here and there then it goes wild. CM tends to go gradually compared to SS.

depends!!! if you dont run it too hot, you can expect its best accuracy will be gone by 2500rnds. good accuracy will start slipping by 4500-5000, but unless oyur an excellent marksman you wont notice either of these points, and will probably get a few thousand more than that out of it. it also depends on your expectations of it. if it were on a BR rifle, the barrel would be in the trash can before it hit 2000rnds. its all relative.

sorry, forgot to add. if you can afford the amount of of ammo required to burn out a barrel, the cost of a barrel is pretty insignifigant.

I swap any barrel out that will be used in competition on either 14's or AR's at no more than 4000 rounds, usually earlier. Im not saying this is some sort of magic number, but 3000 is where "I" generally start to see a depreciation in barrel precision.

I shoot 3000 rounds per season in which ever rifle I will use for that season. After the season I will use the rifle for about another 1000 rounds for general "shooter (me) upkeep" and maintenance. In the meantime another rifle will be getting a new barrel, or have gotten one, and around March I will switch over to that rifle for training, then the first rifle gets ready for a new barrel and 3000-4000 keeps my margin of safety wide, plus it coincides nicely with my seasonal training and match round count, since the last 1000 are for post seasonal training..

Will a good 14 barrel go longer than 3000 rounds for general accuracy? Yes, and some do with really good accuracy! I just dont want to discover my match rifle start to quit on me in the middle of the season, especially rifles with stainless barrels. When SS is "done", it quits fast and hard, unlike moly which gives some warning, but because I use both SS and CM, I have the need for a set round count to switch them out...

How many rounds can a stainless barrel shoot.

From experience at about 20,000 rounds the throat erosion will gauge around 8. But with that being said.
Initial loss of accuracy was noticeable at 4000 rounds, by 10,000 there were flyers and grouping issues. At the last there were unsafe head space conditions.

Cool, thx for the replys on barrel life experience. Shooting is one of my hobbies that keeps me out of the casinos and bars here in Vegas. I will not mind at all haveing to replace the barrel when its time. None of my firearms are safe queens, they all get shot as often as I can.

Guns and shooting are a great way to keep folks (like me) out of the gin-mills. If I couldnt shoot, for whatever reason, Id probably be the town rummy...God help me if Im ever forced to takeup Golf...

3000 is a safe place to consider a barrel upgrade, so start thinking about ordering the new barrel at around 1500....
