From Fox News:

ACCOKEEK, Md. – Beretta U.S.A. announced Tuesday that company concerns over a strict gun-control law enacted in Maryland last year have made it necessary to move its weapons making out of the state to Tennessee.

The well-known gun maker said it will move to a new production facility it is building in the Nashville suburb of Gallatin that is set to open in mid-2015.

Beretta general manager Jeff Cooper said that a sweeping gun-control measure that was passed last year initially contained provisions that would have prohibited the Italian gun maker from being able to produce, store or even import into Maryland the products that the company sells around the world. While the legislation was changed to remove some of those provisions, Cooper said the possibility that such restrictions could be reinstated left the company worried about maintaining a firearm-making factory in Maryland.

"While we had originally planned to use the Tennessee facility for new equipment and for production of new product lines only, we have decided that it is more prudent from the point of view of our future welfare to move the Maryland product lines in their entirety to the new Tennessee facility," Cooper said in a news release announcing the move.

The company anticipates the plant in more gun-friendly Tennessee will involve a $45 million investment in building and equipment and employ about 300 people during the next five years. Beretta said it has no plans to relocate its office, administrative and executive support functions from Accokeek, Maryland.

"Beretta is one of the world's great companies, and its commitment to excellence and Tennessee's rich history in manufacturing make a great match," Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam's spokesman Dave Smith said in an email.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley pushed for the legislation last year in response to the December 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The law, which went into effect last fall, includes a ban on 45 assault weapons and a limit on gun magazines to 10 bullets. It also contains a variety of other provisions, including a licensing requirement for handgun purchasers to submit fingerprints to the state police.

"We're disappointed with this decision, but the common-sense gun safety law we passed, which includes licenses for handgun purchases, is keeping schools, communities and law enforcement personnel safe," said Nina Smith, an O'Malley spokeswoman.

Beretta has operated in Italy since 1526. The family-owned company makes a variety of firearms, ranging from hunting shotguns to pistols for the U.S. Armed Forces. Beretta started operations in Maryland in the late 1970s. The plant in Accokeek makes finished pistols from raw materials for the military, law enforcement, and civilian markets.

Beretta said the transition from Maryland to Tennessee will be managed so as not to disrupt deliveries to Beretta customers.

The company noted that production of the U.S. Armed Forces M9 9 mm Beretta pistol will continue at Accokeek until all current orders from the U.S. Armed Forces have been filled. Cooper said no Maryland employee will be impacted for many months, and the company will meet with employees to discuss their interest in taking a position in Tennessee.

Good!

Beretta is a 500 year old company. You better believe they know how to survive a hostile environment.

I suspect this has to do with the military dumping the M-9 pistol as much as gun laws. They are anticipating losing the government contract which then does not make it economically feasible to stay. USA2

Great impact my state's laws had... They are ridiculous. Even our own residents don't know what laws were passed. I always like to bring up two google windows to show them. One with a banned AR-15 and another with an Cash and Carry HBAR 5.56. They literally look the same. At least I got my M1A before the ban.

They will be missed, but we understand the move and support them. My local club has rimfire steel matches. Beretta has donated firearms to the prize pot before. Surprising since we are a very small club.

Another case where the loonie lefties in charge in MD are more concerned with furthering their left wing agenda then worrying about jobs for their constituents.

The low information voter gets the government they deserve. I am not picking on MD as we have more than our share of these douche nozzles up here. I feel sorry for the right thinkers in MD, the lefties get what they deserve.

Now if we could just get S&W and Colt to move south.

I'm very glad that Beretta is moving to TN and less than a half hour away from where I live.
That being said, I hope the Marylanders that choose to relocate here leave their People's Republic of Maryland ways there. Please don't come here wanting to recreate what you left. We don't want that to happen and obviously neither does Beretta or they wouldn't be moving.

To those that choose to move here and embrace what we have here...Welcome.

Good. More businesses should be leaving the states that don't respect them or seem to want them.

This entire situation is FUBAR.. My local area will lose 300 skilled positions in a down economy. The impacts will be felt in many arenas.. home owners having to sell or rent out homes that they may be upside down in so that they can relocate to Tennessee. Not to mention The profound loss of a Major Taxpayer into the Maryland economy! All this and more so that O'Mally can profile for the Liberal Left in his party trying to bolster support for a Presidential Run... Jack Ass!

Sorry for your loss, Maryland members, but this is the results of law-makers "knee-jerk" reactions to a "perceived" threat. How many of those banned firearms have actually been used in a shooting crime?

This will not go well for Maryland. It will only get worse when Beretta decides to move the administration operations, too.

Regards to the Maryland forum members,

The problem is that this was not Knee Jerk... it was carefully contrived to take advantage of a terrible situation ... Fracking liberals.. we fought them long and hard to no avail and this is but one of the unintended consequences to result from their idiocy!

I have no doubt that we are giving them tax breaks also and to get their company here that's ok with me.
However there is one thing here that Maryland can't give them, a progun bussiness enviorment that wants to see them prosper.

Maybe not so unintended. You typical liberal may be dumb, but they are not stupid. Generally. They want guns gone and they want the people that make them gone as well. May not be able to say that, officially, but privately that is how they feel.

I feel the same way where the state of Maryland is not looking at the financial and economical backlash of the new legislation. I wonder how many politicians in the state will by sorry for passing the law in the first place.

I think they will eventually move their offices here. They may keep a small presence in the DC area to gov't contract.
There will be enough distraction and issues moving manufacturing, admin can come later and I believe it will.
