My understanding is "Yes" you still have to comply with 922(r). I dont believe registering the weapon gets around import restrictions which is really was 922(r) is about. We (civilians) can't assemble non-sporting use weapons from imported parts that would be banned from direct import. Getting a Benelli 922(r) compliant isn't that hard, so I definitely would err on the safe side and just do it.
