I am new to the forum and M1A.
I came across a good deal (at least for California) on a new Springfield M1A std. I would have preferred to purchase a Scout.
I plan on using optics on the rifle.

If i wanted to change and go to a shorter barrel, i could have someone re barrel.
If i do not plan to use the front sight, can i have the stock barrel cut down a retreaded for a direct mount muzzle break? 5/8-24?

Thanks
Pat

The barrel is too thin for a 5/8x24 thread.

Search for posts by Lazerus2000, he has cut a lot of M14 barrels down and has several posts that describe in detail what you can and can't do, threads, muzzle devices.
