Dear NRA ILA EVCs: At 10:30 am EST (2/25/04) by a 75-22 (3 Senators not voting) the US Senate invoked cloture on S. 1805, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (previously numbered S. 659).
By invoking cloture, the US Senate has avoided a potential filibuster by gun-ban advocates in an attempt to derail this critical legislation. Floor debate on this bill is currently underway, and is limited to no more than 30 hrs.
While passing cloture was an important first step, we must now ensure that every US Senator receives calls urging them to pass a CLEAN S. 1805 --- NO ANTI-GUN AMENDMENTS!
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACTIVATE YOUR LOCAL VOLUNTEER NETWORK -- CONTACT YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND FELLOW SECOND AMENDMENT SUPPORTERS AND HAVE THEM CALL, E-MAIL, OR FAX BOTH US SENATORS AND URGE THEM TO PASS S. 1805 WITH NO ANTI-GUN AMENDMENTS.
or you can reach the US Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator's office.

I think this means that the AWB rider to 659 wasn't passed. I thought everyone might like to see this if you haven't seen it already. I don't think were out of the woods yet though.
As of Friday night, there have been amendments (pretty good report on status on www.nraila.org) to include all handguns must be sold with CPSC-approved trigger locks, which IMHO ain't such a bad thing (they make good paperweights when the hardware's stowed in a SAFE), and some other stuff.
The BAD thing is that Boxer/Feinstein, et al. are going to force a vote on renewing AWB on Tuesday, when the actual bill is set to be voted on as well.
I remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard the AWB go through the first time in '94. I certainly don't want a repeat experience.
