I recently had the pleasure of hooking up with Marine Pilot Capt. Matt McCloud who had served over in the Iraq Theatre and has since returned to CONUS and is curently stationed in North Carolina.

During our correspondence he asked me if I would be interested in a self made CD containing various pics taken by him during his "Float" and I thought I would share a few of them with you.

Capt. McCloud is a CH53 SeaKnight Pilot ...

Thank you Capt. McCloud and crew for your service to our country ...

UPDATE

Just got off the phone with the Captain and he will be headed back over that-a-way for "another" tour here very shortly.

I will keep you all posted and I have invited him to sign on here at The Firing Line.

Would like to personally welcome Capt. Matt McCloud to the Firing Line here as he recently climbed on board with the rest of us and goes by CH53Driver.

Altho he will be headed across the pond back to the Sandbox soon he managed to pick himself up a S/A Std rack grade recently.

"Welcome Aboard Matt" ...

Hello Everyone!
I'd like to start off by thanking Six for introducing me to the Firing Line Family. I am getting ready to leave again, so I don't know how much I will get to visit here before I leave, but if anyone wants to dop me a line I will do my best to get back with ya before I leave. Anyways, I hope to meet some of you before I get out of here, so if you got the time drop me a line...
Semper Fi,
Matt...aka Clown :D

Looking mighty good there Cap'n ...

HH,
You worked on 53E's did ya? She is a great machine...about 14,000 horses so she definitely is a brute! One of the best crew chief's that I ever have had the pleasure of working with was a 53D guy who converted to the E...both are great machines! :D

Six,
Thanks for the addition to thread...you definitely have a way of making a picture much prettier than just having my mug on it! Now just think what she will look like when she's all dressed up in one of your stocks!

Semper Fi,
Matt

Take that ch53d & add an extra engine, an extra prop, & the tail and ya got yourself an echo. No extra space inside but external can carry about twice the weight as I recall. Been 20 years, but I remember 37 troops or 50 some with the centerline seats added.
For troops & cargo I think the 53 is a major step from the 46.
