What is the 'dynamic' range?
It is a range that has Berms, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150. Law enforcement uses it frequently, with barriers, etc., moving from barrier to barrier for live fire simulations, hence... dynamic.

You can use both rifle and pistol on it. As an example, using your rifle in quick fire exercises, and then your pistol as a follow up. I prefer it as it is not as noisy as the 100 yard range, with the roof covering.

Here is an old photo of Douglas Ridge with the different ranges. This was photographed pre Berm, several years ago. There is now a barrier for the shotgun range to keep lead out of the wetlands.

That's great. I went to the range today and we had it to ourselves for about half the time we were there, then a young couple showed up, that was it. I thought with the checks sent out people would be trying out their new guns and/or luckily acquired ammo. Depending on the day and time there is no RSO and no one else, it's awesome!

I was at the range this past Friday for the first time in a while. Two older gents there shooting a 6mm Creedmore at 400 yards. They left and I had the place to myself for a few. Then a truckload of goofs (5 total) show up with a couple of AR's and a Glock something or other. They're shooting the handgun with the rifles, even though the pistol range is separate from the rifle section, and from their arrival until my departure it was a mad minute of fire. It's been a long time since I saw that much ammo fired that quickly and so few targets hit.

Which just goes to prove my point...you can't fix stupid. Turns out you can't quarantine it either!

Our's started out being a Tactical Range ROOL1
At some point, they decided that wasn't PC, so now its a Multi Purpose Range.
Huge berms 180°, 20 to 30 feet high. You almost need a spread sheet for the rules; pistols at 25yds, .223 (and pistol caliber carbines IIRC) at 50yds and rifles at 100. Lots of reactive steel, poppers, swingers, flippers et. al.
Wifey and I were the only ones on it last week. Hoping that will be the case today. ICONCOOL

I do miss the conversations with fellow enthusiast, but not "fast firin' Freddie" next to me.

Which reminds me, I bought some Magtech Steel Jacketed 556 never shot it before, but bought it in panic mode a few weeks back. Took it out to see what it would do. I fired several... and was less than impressed. Must be made for close range. So many fliers.

I will ask here from here on.

Thanks,
TP

Oh, this is Douglas Ridge? Great. I have been on the fence about a membership there, are their RO's as rigid as TCGC's?

Don't know how ridged the RO's are at Douglas Ridge, I've only been there twice and both times was to shoot the matches.

There was a rather stiff bastage at TCGC, and the last two times Ive been with Tony he wasn't there, thank god. There are very few people that you meet and as soon as you do, you want too punch them in the face, he is one I would like too punch in the face repeatedly!!

Hi,
Years ago, I went to a public range at a National Forest, that I won't mention by name.

I was actually amazed at what was going on.

I didn't get to shoot much as I turned into the self appointed RO just so no one...

Would get shot while I was there!

Admittedly, this was just before Deer Season and a lot of City Boys were there for their yearly, "sighting in" session.

Oh yea, I never Deer Hunted in that area either!RNGR2

Not in my experience. I am an RSO there, and the emphasis is on assisting as needed, safety etc.

There has been some incidents there but on the main most people are very chill. With that said we get our fair share of idiots coming out and doing some dumb things.

I really like Douglas Ridge. I try to get out there weekly.
