What is the tool at the top of the 601 rifle? Looks like it has a curve on the end and appears with a pouch for it.
That is a scope adjustment tool. Here are photos of the Delft scope, canvas case, tool and and the Armalite scope mount.

Nice accoutrements! Have never seen ArmaLite bipods and bayo's before. I do have one magazine stamped both Colt and ArmaLite though.
Thanks for posting!
Well all those original accoutrements including the scope cost me more than the rifle did and it was not cheap. o_O

My longtime good buddy was a LRRP/Ranger/ SF in Vietnam for 46 months. He always said he carried a "CAR15." I asked if it was a Colt. Yes, he said, it was a Colt. I saw his photos of him in camos, green painted face with his "CAR 15" which was short like on M4 is now, and it had had a long suppressor on it.

What is the story on the "CAR15?" My pal has never been a "gun guy" he only knew how to use them and as he said, "sneak around at night."
He even had a small tattoo (he has never been a tattoo guy either) of a small Black Panther on his right forearm. I asked about that too. He said it was a thing he and his "night crew" had gotten done together. But I digress . . .

Can you clarify about the CAR15? Was it a Colt Armalite 15?

Your buddy likely carried a Colt XM177E1. CAR15 is the generic term for early shorter than 20” barrel ARs with a collapsible stock. Until the M4.

That is it exactly!
In the first pic, is that a suppressor?
His was much longer, maybe 12 inches? Or has my memory deceived me?

ETA: Also, was the "AR" a designation for "automatic rifle" or "Armalite Rifle?"
And, what about the "15?" Was that completely different than the M-16 lower and upper receivers?
